SENDIASS is our Special Educational Needs Information Advice and Support Service

We can give you free advice on anything to do with your education, health or daily life.

Who can we help?

Group of young people on the pavement next to a yarn bombed treeYou can get advice from SENDIASS if you are:

  • aged 14 to 25
  • living or studying in Brighton & Hove or East Sussex
  • disabled, neurodivergent, or have additional needs of any kind

We work with young people with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, mental health difficulties, physical or sensory disabilities.

You don’t have to have a diagnosis, and you don’t need an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP) to get support.

How can SENDIASS help?

Watch this video of our youth worker Sally talking with Kacey, a disabled and neurodivergent young person, to learn more about SENDIASS:

We can:

  • help you get the right support at school or college
  • help you think through your options after school or college
  • answer your questions about health and care
  • support you to be involved in decisions that affect you
  • listen to you and tell other people like teachers and caseworkers what’s important to you

We can also connect you to our benefits advice service and our careers advice* service.

*The careers service only works in Brighton & Hove.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to talk on the phone?

Sally is the SENDIASS worker for young people. She can give advice and information different ways, depending on what you prefer:

  • by phone
  • by email
  • over video call
  • in person

She can meet you on your own or with your parents or carers – it’s up to you.

Is what I say confidential?

Our support is confidential – we won’t tell other people what you say unless you agree it’s okay, or if someone is in danger of being hurt.

We give impartial support and don’t take sides.

Will you tell me what to do?

We won’t tell you what to do, just give you honest and clear information so you can make your own decisions.

Can I get someone else to contact you on my behalf?

Yes. You can get a parent or carer to get in touch with us if you prefer.

What is SENDIASS?

SENDIASS is the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information Advice and Support Service. Every local authority has to have a SENDIASS service. Amaze is the SENDIASS service for Brighton & Hove and East Sussex.

The Council for Disabled Children (CDC) has created a video of young people talking about SENDIASS services and how they can help. They have also made an animation about SENDIASS services.
