We ran our Brighton short breaks holiday club again this year, and wow, what a summer! We had four jam-packed weeks of activities for young people with disabilities or additional needs in Brighton & Hove. Here’s just some of what we got up to…
We let our creative side shine through
Check out the gorgeous graffiti art we made with help from artist Sinna One!
We also made use of the scorching sun to create art in Figment Arts’ cyanotype workshop, and made banners in a workshop at Brighton Museum.
Two teams took part in our fashion show, making outfits out of a few materials and showing them off on the catwalk. We did other arts and crafts together too, like making sensory boards and sensory bottles.
We got our bodies moving too!
A big highlight was the circus skills workshop from Circus Allstars, where we tried out juggling, tightrope-walking, spinning plates and more!
The young people were in agreement that their favourite activities were braving the tightrope and showing off their hula hoop skills!
Youth worker Jade says:
“Seeing the young people develop confidence and beaming from their progress and achievements when trying new things in the session was my glimmer.”
(Not heard of a glimmer before? It’s a moment of joy and peace ✨ – the opposite of a trigger.)
We also had fantastic inclusive workshops from Parable Dance, Albion Foundation, Third Space Theatre and the Healthy Lifestyles team, where we:
- got dancing
- played competitive Boccia
- took part in a creative drama workshop
- played indoor sports and games
Jade says:
“It was an all-round awesome summer with lots of smiles and laughs.”
