What is Supported Employment?

Supported Employment helps people with additional needs find and keep paid work. They aim to do this by:

  • listening to you so they can understand what you need and want from your job
  • matching you with the right jobs, and helping you to apply and prepare for interviews
  • continuing to support you once you start your job
  • helping you if you want to develop your career

They also work closely with employers:

  • to find and develop suitable job opportunities
  • to explain how the Supported Employment team will help them with your needs

Supported Employment is not done in a set time frame – they understand everyone is different and has different needs. Some people might receive support for a few months, others for many years.

Who is Supported Employment for?

You might be able to get help from the council’s Supported Employment team if you are:

  • over 18
  • autistic or have a learning disability
  • looking for paid work
